It was June 3rd, 2016. I was driving forty-five minutes to a client's house outside Waco, Texas, and I needed that money. Not "would be nice" money. I needed it to pay rent. That day.
Then my phone buzzed. He canceled. No cancellation fee. No contract. No safety net. Because I had built my entire business on hope and hourly rates.
